Tropical Cyclone Statement issued June 18 at 3:59AM CDT by NWS Corpus Christi TXHLSCRPThis product covers South Texas**Tropical Storm Warnings Now in Effect**NEW INFORMATION---------------* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:- The Tropical Storm Watch has been upgraded to a Tropical StormWarning for Aransas Islands, Calhoun Islands, Coastal Aransas,Coastal Calhoun, Coastal Kleberg, Coastal Nueces, CoastalRefugio, Coastal San Patricio, Inland Calhoun, Inland Kleberg,Inland Nueces, Inland Refugio, Inland San Patricio, KlebergIslands, and Nueces Islands* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:- A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Aransas Islands,Calhoun Islands, Coastal Aransas, Coastal Calhoun, CoastalKleberg, Coastal Nueces, Coastal Refugio, Coastal San Patricio,Inland Calhoun, Inland Kleberg, Inland Nueces, Inland Refugio,Inland San Patricio, Kleberg Islands, and Nueces Islands* STORM INFORMATION:- About 520 miles south-southeast of Port Aransas TX or about 530miles south-southeast of Corpus Christi TX- 21.3N 93.0W- Storm Intensity 40 mph- Movement North or 360 degrees at 6 mphSITUATION OVERVIEW------------------A very large area of low pressure over the Bay of Campeche hasincreased its likelihood of development into a tropical system overthe next 24-36 hours as it traverses the western Gulf. With thissystem expected to develop into a Tropical Storm as it approaches thecoast, all Tropical Storm Watches have been upgraded to Tropical StormWarnings.Tropical Storm Warnings are now in effect along all coastalcounties, bays and Gulf waters out to 60 nm from Baffin Bay throughPort O'Connor. Regardless of development and eventual landfalllocation, there are several hazards and impacts expected across SouthTexas from tonight through Thursday due to the large extent of thissystem. The main threats will be:- Flash Flooding: Moderate to high threat of flash flooding Tuesdaythrough Thursday. Rainfall accumulations of 8-9" are expected alongthe Coastal Bend with localized rainfall amounts up to 15". Across therest of the region, the Victoria Crossroads could see accumulations of6-8" through Thursday, while the Brush Country could have amounts ashigh as 4-6".- Coastal Flooding: Significant coastal flooding is expected with upto 3 ft of inundation possible across the Middle Texas Coast includingthe bays between Baffin Bay and Matagorda Bay. In addition, there willbe a High risk of rip currents.- River Flooding: Considerable river flooding along portions of theeastern Coastal Plains and Victoria Crossroads from Tuesday nightthrough Thursday. There is a 15% chance of Major flooding at OsoCreek.- Winds: Sustained winds of 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph can beexpected across the Coastal Bend, while winds of up to 45 knots can beexpected over the bays and Gulf waters out to 60 nm from Baffin Baythrough Port O'Connor.- Hazardous Seas: Wave heights 12 to 15 feet with occasionally up to18 feet.POTENTIAL IMPACTS-----------------* FLOODING RAIN:Protect against life-threatening rainfall flooding having possibleextensive impacts across South Texas. Potential impacts include:- Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and rescues.- Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks inmultiple places. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches maybecome dangerous rivers. Flood control systems and barriers maybecome stressed.- Flood waters can enter many structures within multiplecommunities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washedaway. Many places where flood waters may cover escape routes.Streets and parking lots become rivers of moving water withunderpasses submerged. Driving conditions become dangerous.Many road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out.* SURGE:Prepare for locally hazardous surge having possible limited impactsacross the Coastal Bend. Potential impacts in this area include:- Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly alongimmediate shorelines and in low-lying spots, or in areasfarther inland near where higher surge waters move ashore.- Sections of near-shore roads and parking lots become overspreadwith surge water. Driving conditions dangerous in places wheresurge water covers the road.- Moderate beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainlyin usually vulnerable locations. Strong rip currents.- Minor to locally moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks,and piers. A few small craft broken away from moorings.* WIND:Prepare for hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across theCoastal Bend. Potential impacts in this area include:- Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchoredmobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.- Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped oruprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees areshallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over.- A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urbanor heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions onbridges and other elevated roadways.- Scattered power and communications outages.Elsewhere across South Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.* TORNADOES:Protect against a tornado event having possible limited impactsacross southern Coastal Bend. Potential impacts include:- The occurrence of isolated tornadoes can hinder the executionof emergency plans during tropical events.- A few places may experience tornado damage, along with powerand communications disruptions.- Locations could realize roofs peeled off buildings, chimneystoppled, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned,large tree tops and branches snapped off, shallow-rooted treesknocked over, moving vehicles blown off roads, and small boatspulled from moorings.Elsewhere across South Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS----------------------------------* EVACUATIONS:Follow the advice of local officials.* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:Now is the time to complete all preparations to protect life andproperty in accordance with your emergency plan.
