Flood Watch issued June 21 at 10:27AM CDT until June 22 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IAA moderate risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding is forecastover northern Iowa later today and overnight. Storms will beredeveloping this afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall expectedlater this evening to early Saturday morning. Some uncertaintyremains as to the exact axis of heaviest rainfall, but currentindications are that the heaviest rainfall in north central Iowawill be generally between Highway 20 and the Iowa Minnesota border.If you live in or near the watch, please monitor the weather closelythis afternoon and tonight. Review flooding safety plans now and beprepared if you must take action.* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected tonightfor locations within the watch area.* WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Iowa, includingthe following counties, in north central Iowa, Cerro Gordo,Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago and Worth. In northwest Iowa, Emmetand Palo Alto.* WHEN...Through Saturday afternoon.* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occurin poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may beflooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks andrivers are possible.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- Expected rainfall totals may exceed 4 to 7 inches in someareas with locally higher amounts are possible. Rapid risesin creeks, streams and urban flooding will be possible. Fieldflooding and washed out county roads will also be possible.Rainfall rates may approach 2 inches per hour in the heavierstorms.
