Flood Warning issued June 19 at 1:58PM CDT until June 20 at 4:00PM CDT by NWS Duluth MN* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.* WHERE...In Minnesota, in east central Minnesota, Aitkin and CrowWing Counties. In north central Minnesota, Cass, Itasca andKoochiching Counties. In northeast Minnesota, St. Louis County.* WHEN...Until 400 PM CDT Thursday.* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lyingand flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remainclosed due to flooding. Previously passable roads may now beflooded as rivers continue to rise and will crest in the next 12to 24 hours.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 138 PM CDT Wednesday, Doppler radar and observersindicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms on Tuesday.Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 2and 6 inches of rain fell Tuesday morning through theevening.- Additional rainfall is possible in the warned area Thursdaythrough this upcoming weekend, which may aggravate theongoing flooding problems.- Some locations that will experience flooding include...Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Walker, Lake Vermilion, Virginia,Chisholm, Mountain Iron, Cohasset, Breezy Point, PequotLakes, Crosslake, Coleraine, Keewatin, Buhl, Nashwauk, PineRiver, Deer River, Cherry, Emily and Hill City.- Rises are expected on area rivers and streams throughThursday. This includes the Little Fork River and VermilionRivers in the Rainy Basin, the Big Fork River and the PrairieRiver.- Flood safety information can be found atwww.weather.gov/safety/flood.Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize thedangers of flooding.Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If campingat a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move awayfrom those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terraincan quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall.
